2、guresAcceptedAugust17,1978SummaryThebovinecoronavirusstrainL￥-I38waspurifiedbydifferentialaswellasvelocityandisopyeniccentrifugationinsucroseorCsC1gradients.Thesubstrateforpurificationwascontentsofthesmallintestineofexperimentallyinoculatedcalves.Thisstrainishighlyenteropathogenic,butitcouldnotyet

3、bepropagatedinculturedcells.Intactvirionshadadensityof1.245g/cm3inCsC1and1.185g/cm3insucrose.Asphericalcore-likestructurewithanaveragediameterof82nmremainingaftertreatmentwithchloroformhadadensityof1.299g/cmainCsC1and1.201g/cm3insucrose.Sevendistinctbandsofpotypeptidesand4shouldersweredetectedafte

4、relectrophoresisofSDS-solubilizedvirionsinpolyaerylamidegels.Theapproximatemolecularweightsrangedfrom110,000to36,000.FourofthebandsgaveaPASpositivereaction.These4glycoproteinsandanadditionalproteinwithanap-proximatemolecularweightof70,000wereremovedbychloroformtreatment.Theremainingcore-likestruct

5、urecontainedthe2polypeptidesVP3andVP7.IntroductionAmongthecoronavirusestherearestrainsthatcauseintestinalinfectionsleadingtoenteritisanddiarrheainswine(10,32),rodents(28),dogs(2),calves(26)andpossiblyman(6).Factorsdeterminingtheuniqueenteropathogenicpropertiesofthesecoronaviralstrainshavenotbeende
