2、ventionfortheSafetyofLifeatSea(SOLAS).Aresolutionadoptedbythe1960Conferencesaidtheproposedcodeshouldcoversuchmattersaspacking,containertrafficandstowage,withparticularreferencetothesegregationofincompatiblesubstances.AworkinggroupofIMO’sMaritimeSafetyCommitteebeganpreparingth

3、eCodein1961,incloseco-operationwiththeUnitedNationsCommitteeofExpertsontheTransportofDangerousGoods,whichina1956reporthadestablishedminimumrequirementsforthetransportofdangerousgoodsbyallmodesoftransport.SinceitsadoptionbythefourthIMOAssemblyin1965,theIMDGCodehasundergonemany

4、changes,bothinappearanceandcontenttokeeppacewiththeever-changingneedsofindustry.AmendmentswhichdonotaffecttheprinciplesuponwhichtheCodeisbasedmaybeadoptedbytheMSC,allowingIMOtorespondtotransportdevelopmentsinreasonabletime.AmendmentstotheIMDGCodeoriginatefromtwosources;propos

5、alssubmitteddirectlytoIMObyMemberStatesandamendmentsrequiredtotakeaccountofchangestotheUnitedNationsRecommendationsontheTransportofDangerousGoodswhichsetsthebasicrequirementsforallthetransportmodes.AmendmentstotheprovisionsoftheUnitedNationsRecommendationsaremadeonatwo-yearly

6、cycleandapproximatelytwoyearsaftertheiradoption,theyareadoptedbytheauthoritiesresponsibleforregulatingthevarioustransportmodes.Inthatwayabasicsetofrequirementsapplicabletoallmodesoftransportisestablishedandimplemented,thusensuringthatdifficultiesarenotencounteredatinter-modal

7、interfaces.TheMaritimeSafetyCommittee(MSC)atits72ndsessioninMay2000adoptedarevisedandreformattedInternationalMaritimeDangerousGoods(IMDG)Code,whichisintendedtobemoreuser-friendlyandunderstandable,knownas“Amendment30”.“Amendment30”totheIMDGCodeinvolvesthecompletereformattingof
