6、rmreliability.Short-termreliabilityismoreasecurityissuewhilelong-termreliabilityfocusesmoreontheissueofadequacy.Thisdissertationpresentstechniquestoaddresssomesecurityissuesassociatedwithshort-termreliabilityandsomeadequacyissuesrelatedtolong-termreli
7、abilityinderegulatedpowersystems.Short-termreliabilityisforoperationalpurposesandismainlyconcernedwithsecurity.Thusthewayenergyisdispatchedandtheactionsthesystemoperatortakestoremedyaninsecuresystemstatesuchastransmissioncongestionareimportanttoshort-
8、termreliability.Ourstudiesonshort-termreliabilityarethereforefocusedonthesetwoaspects.Wefirstinvestigatetheformulationoftheauction-baseddispatchbythelawofsupplyanddemand.Thenwedevelopefficientalgorithmstosolvetheauction-baseddispatchwithdiffer
