4、iorknowledgetofacilitatenewlearning.Forthefirstplace,beforelearningaforeignlanguage,theexperienceofthelearnerisacquiredandpreservedthroughhisnativelanguage,sotheseexperienceswillbeusedfortheforeignlanguagelearning.Forthesecond,thenativelanguageservesasatoolfortheforeignlanguagelearningandtheknowle
5、dgeandskillofthenativelanguagewillbetransferredtotheforeignlanguageunconsciously.Someofthenativelanguagestructuralknowledgemaybetransferredtothelearners’mentalstateunconsciously.Andthiswouldmakethelearnersproduceanincorrectsentence.ManyofChinesestudentshavealreadyacquiredsomeChinesebeforetheylearn
6、English,whichmakethemnaturallyusetheknowledgeofmotherlanguagetolearnEnglish.Asaresult,theinfluenceofmotherlanguageintheEnglishlearningisunavoidable.Sincethereareequivalents,similaritiesanddifferencesbetweenthenativeandtheforeignlanguageinlinguisticstructure,socialcultureandlogicthought,theformsoft
7、ransferduringtheprocessoflearningaredifferent,includingpositiveandnegativetransfer.Negativetransferhasbeingstudiedforalongtime,becauseitplaysanobviousroleinsecondlanguageacquisitioncomparedwithpositivetransfer.II
